Approximately 66% of Americans, older than the age of 20, are overweight and of these, 34% or 72 million are obese.

Training considerations for overweight or obesity
  • May have other co morbidities(diagnosed or undiagnosed) including hypertension, cardiovascular disease or diabetes.
  • Measure of body composition, BMI, scale weight or circumference measurement recommended.
Basic Exercise Guidelines for Overweight or Obese

weight loss

Mode:low intensity or step aerobics
Frequency:at least 5 days per week
Intensity:60–80% of maximum heart rate, use “talk test”
Duration:40–60 mins per day or 20–30 min session 2 times a day
Assessment:push, pull, squat, single leg balance
Flexibility:SMR(only if comfortable to client)
Resistance:1–3 sets of 10–15 reps on 2–3 days
Phases 1and 2 will be appropriate to be performed in a circuit
Training manner(higher reps >20 may be used)
Special considerations

Make sure client is comfortable..be aware of positions and locations in facility.
